There is a speculation of a new Dota 2 Hero. It was actually hinted on the last update on January 3. The updates have listed these items:
Particle Updates
- Added particles for “Spear Wall” of a hero internally referred to as “Mars.”
- Added ability icon for Mars’ Phalanx Cancel
- Added ability icon for Mars’ Spear
None of these are known to anyone, thus the speculation of a new hero will be added, arises. There's also a picture that shows the spell icons of the alleged new hero "Mars".

Let us review this things in details.
Mars is the Roman counterpart of the Greek God Ares. He is the god of war. He is also the son of Zeus, which is already a playable hero in Dota 2. Also, Mars or Ares is always depicted to be carrying a Spear and Shield as its weapon. With that, it is safe to say that the "Mars" stated above may be the actual Roman God.
Next, is its abilities. One of its ability is called "Phalanx Cancel". Phalanx is a known ancient Greek warfare formation. It is one of the most formidable defenses ever known. This ability maybe about decreasing enemy's defense or maybe cancelling someone's defense. Or the other possibility is that there is another skill that is paired to this ability. That skill will create illusion(I think) and then they will form a Phalanx that will give Mars an increased defense or maybe invulnerability. But once you activated it your mana will deplete as you used it.
The next one would be the "Spear Wall". The moment I read about this skill and the hero being connected to the Greek god and also Phalanx had been used, the picture above immediately comes to my mind. I mean no other perfect explanation about this rather than this technique used by the Greeks. This skill will be most likely a charging skill. Mars will charge on the targeted enemy and knocks back the hero using its spear. When charging, Mars' defense increase.
Last is the ability icon, "Spear". I don't want it to be like the skill of Troll Warlord changing stances from Melee to Range. But it will be most likely that. The difference is that it will just change from Spear to Shield. I will compare it to the Pokemon Aegislash. It will have a defense and attack stance. But when he toggle it to the Shield mode, all you can do is walk/run and just get higher defense stat.
